A Message from the Chief
Welcome to Northern Berkshire EMS and Northern Berkshire Transport!
On behalf of our dedicated employees, leadership team, and Board of Directors, I would like to welcome you to our website and thank you for taking the time to learn more about our organization and the services we provide.
For decades, North Adams Ambulance Service, Inc., operating as Northern Berkshire EMS (NBEMS) and Northern Berkshire Transport (NBT), has proudly served the residents and visitors of Northern Berkshire County, Massachusetts, and Southern Vermont. Our organization has grown and evolved over the years, but our commitment to providing safe, compassionate, professional, and reliable care has remained unchanged.
At Northern Berkshire EMS, our highly trained Emergency Medical Technicians, Advanced EMTs, and Paramedics respond to thousands of emergencies each year, providing lifesaving care when our communities need us most. From emergency 911 responses and advanced life support services to interfacility medical transportation and special event coverage, our personnel demonstrate an unwavering commitment to clinical excellence and public service.
At Northern Berkshire Transport, our dedicated team provides essential wheelchair-accessible and non-emergency transportation services, helping individuals maintain access to medical appointments, healthcare services, and other important destinations. We recognize that reliable transportation is an essential component of healthcare, independence, and quality of life, particularly in our rural communities.
Together, our two divisions play an important role in the regional healthcare system, providing services that extend far beyond traditional ambulance transportation.
Like many rural healthcare organizations, we face ongoing challenges related to workforce development, rising operational costs, and inadequate reimbursement for the services we provide. Despite these challenges, we remain focused on strengthening our organization, investing in our employees, modernizing our equipment and facilities, and exploring innovative programs that will improve access to care and ensure the long-term sustainability of our services.
We are especially proud of the relationships we have developed with our municipal partners, local fire departments, healthcare facilities, community organizations, and neighboring emergency service agencies. These partnerships are essential to our ability to provide coordinated, high-quality services throughout the region.
Our greatest strength, however, is our people. The dedicated professionals who make up NBEMS and NBT work around the clock, often under challenging circumstances, to make a meaningful difference in the lives of others. Their compassion, professionalism, and commitment to our mission are what make this organization truly special.
As Chief and General Manager, I am honored to lead an organization with such a strong history of service and an equally strong commitment to the future. Having been part of this organization for more than 25 years, I have witnessed firsthand the dedication of our employees, the evolution of emergency medical services, and the importance of having a strong, locally based healthcare and transportation resource in our communities.
As we look ahead, our priorities remain clear: delivering exceptional patient care, supporting and developing our workforce, expanding access to essential healthcare services, and ensuring that Northern Berkshire EMS and Northern Berkshire Transport remain strong and sustainable for generations to come.
