Northern Berkshire EMS – Operations Division
The Operations Division of Northern Berkshire EMS (NBEMS) is responsible for ensuring the timely delivery of high-quality emergency medical services throughout Northern Berkshire County, Massachusetts, and Southern Vermont. Serving 13 communities across a 351-square-mile service area, our Operations Division works to maintain appropriate staffing, resources, and equipment to meet the emergency medical needs of the communities we serve.
Based on call volume, historical demand, and operational needs, NBEMS strategically deploys a combination of Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Basic Life Support (BLS) ambulances from three station locations. Daily staffing generally consists of four to five ambulances during daytime hours, four during evening hours, and two to three overnight. Additionally, an ALS-equipped supervisor response vehicle is staffed 24 hours a day, seven days a week, providing operational oversight, clinical support, and additional advanced life support capabilities when needed.
Responding to more than 10,000 calls annually, NBEMS provides emergency 911 response, interfacility medical transportation, and advanced prehospital care. Our personnel are trained and equipped to manage a wide range of medical emergencies while supporting regional healthcare facilities and neighboring emergency service agencies.
Beyond daily emergency response, the Operations Division oversees fleet management, medical equipment, communications systems, personnel deployment, and special event medical coverage. These essential functions support our mission of delivering safe, reliable, and compassionate emergency medical services to the communities we serve.
